DREAMCATCHER

People today have more than enough ways to access news with information that comes too quickly with just a finger tap. However, the overwhelming amount of information flushing out at high speed will easily affect one’s mind and usually happens unconsciously. In this exhibition, I tried to interact with the conflict between individual will and collective thinking in the information age and remind people of the importance of keeping their own opinion in the homogenized yet chaotic information cocoon. The exhibition is divided into “Little Dreams” and “Big Dreams.”
This project requires visitors to participate in completing the artwork, and it is fascinating to witness the progress and evolvement of how the art piece is coming together. In the “Little Dreams” section, where the individuals are asked to put their notes on the wall, one will quickly become aware of the existence of other individuals and will yield the space to allow room for others to place their notes. While in the “Big Dreams” section, where the tracing is captured and overlaid in an unconscious set ting, the interaction between individuals is inevitable and is clearly out of one’s control. Although it is created without intention, the final image will again resonate with the audience and cause emotional reactions. The setting of these two sections implies the tangled relationship between the ideology of mass media and the expression of personal will.

I use the Kinect interactive system in TouchDesigner to track everyone's hand activities and add jitter to make the motion trajectory abstract. These tracks will not disappear and become completely chaotic in countless superpositions, just like the fragmented collective will.
I use different colors of notes and markers to let people choose their favorite colors to write and paste them anywhere in the exhibition hall. These colors will interact with the colors projected by the projector to let people know how helpless they are in public.
